SESQUICENTENNIAL
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q – What is a sesquicentennial?

A – Ses-qui-cen-ten-nial noun: a 150th anniversary or its celebration.  Collingwood was incorporated in 1858 making 2008 its sesquicentennial anniversary.

Q – What celebrations are being planned?

A – To celebrate, the Town of Collingwood will be promoting a series of previously established and newly created events all promoted as sesquicentennial or ‘sesquicentennial edition’ events to run throughout 2008.  In addition, ten dedicated celebration days are scheduled from Friday, June 27th to Sunday, July 6th, 2008.

Q – Will there be admission fees for the events?

A – Each event has its own organizing committee and its own fee structure.  The ‘calendar of events’ button located on the home page will lead you to the listing of 2008 events by month, where you will find contact information and details specific to each event.  Check back frequently as new events will be added throughout the year.

Q – How can I get involved?

A – Organizations currently hosting annual events can commit to hosting a sesquicentennial edition of their event in 2008.  Additional sesquicentennial events and activities can be arranged and spearheaded by service clubs, non-profit organizations, schools, and community associations.  Business leaders can consider making a donation, becoming a sponsor, or purchasing an advertisement in the various sesquicentennial promotional materials that will be developed, including a full-year sesquicentennial event listing and guide.  Lastly, individuals and community groups can consider volunteering their time to one or more sesquicentennial initiatives.  Please indicate your desire to get involved by contacting:

Q – What is this signature project I’ve been hearing about?

A – Collingwood Council has commissioned local artist John Haines to create a series of four interpretive panels that highlights the history of Collingwood and its residents.  The panels are scheduled for completion in December of 2007.  Upon unveiling, the panels will be showcased at various community sites throughout 2008, before being permanently installed at a currently undecided location in 2009.
