Election 2018 - Information for Candidates

The 2018 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018. This election includes the election of Collingwood Council including the position of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and seven Councillors, as well as school board trustees.  The Municipal Elections Act (MEA) is the legislation which governs the operation and administration of the municipal elections. The MEA has been updated with a number of changes, including key dates. Visit the Ministry of Municipal Affairs website for details.

In the 2018 Municipal Election, Collingwood voters along with its neighbouring municipalities will cast their ballot using the Internet or Telephone. These methods provide flexibility, which allows for a longer voting period than traditional voting. The voting period will be open from October 12 at 10:00 a.m. to October 22, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.

Nominations: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - July 27, 2018

Nominations will be accepted from Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. until Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. for the following offices:
  • Mayor
  • Deputy Mayor
  • Councillor (seven)
  • Member - Simcoe County District School Board (Collingwood accepting nominations)
  • Member - Simcoe Muskoka Catholic Disctirct School Board (Springwater accepting nominations)
  • Member - Conseil scolaire Viamonde (formerly Conseil scolaire de district du Centre Sud-Ouest) (Barrie accepting nominations)
  • Member - Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (Barrie accepting nominations)
