More accessible voting in 2010

Some residents who previously required assistance casting their vote will be able to vote independently in the 2010 Municipal Election, thanks to new accessible ballot marking equipment.

The accessible electronic ballot marker and electronic tabulation equipment is part of a "vote by mail" election, approved by Council for the 2010 Municipal Election. The ballot marker is a breakthrough in ballot-marking technology, allowing voters with disabilities and other special needs to mark a ballot privately and independently when using an optical scan voting system.

The technology also provides language assistance to voters who are more comfortable speaking a different language or who need help to better understand written instructions. More information about the device will be posted here when it becomes available.
