No Ward Question on the Ballot

Council defeated a proposed by-law that would have asked voters if they supported a "ward" system in future Council elections. If passed, a question would have been placed on the 2010 Municipal Election ballot.

If at least 50% of eligible electors voted on the question and more than 50% of the votes on the question were in favour of the result, the question would have been binding to the municipality, and a by-law would have been required to be passed following the election to convert the at-large system to a ward system. If the voters were not in favour of the question, the current at-large system would have remained in place.

The exact wording of the proposed question was, "Are you in favour of having a 'ward' system as the method of electing future Town Councillors instead of the current "at-large" system? Yes or No."
