Have you ever wanted to try your hand at rowing, paddling, sailing or fishing? On July 1st, the public is invited to get out on the water and take part in a free and fun day to try out some great water activities. Collingwood has several water sport organizations taking part, and all are excited to introduce their activity to the public.

The Get out on the Water event is a great chance for anyone who is interested in sailing to try it out before registering in the Collingwood Sailing School summer program. Registration has begun and an early bird discount is available until June 15th. The summer program will continue to run the CANSail 1-4 curriculum and operate for eight weeks between July 3 and August 25, 2017. The Sailing School offers a half day or full day option for each week. The program is available for children 8 years of age and up. Adult lessons will also be available in the evenings.

The Collingwood Rowing Club is encouraging everyone to try rowingHave you thought about taking up rowing? Sign up for a demo row. We’ll take you for a spin round the harbour as part of a crew, accompanied by some experienced rowers. Rowing is for all ages, and provides a full body workout without injurious impact.

Also participating is the Collingwood Dragon Boat and Canoe Club"Collingwood is fortunate to have an accessible waterfront that easily lends itself to passive recreational activities,” said Collingwood Dragon Boat and Canoe Club Flag Officer/Commodore, Ian Adams. “There are so many options to enjoy Georgian Bay in a healthy and active way, paddling being just one of them.”

The Optimist Club of Collingwood will also be holding its annual kids fishing derby during this event.

Get out on the water is an Ontario-wide initiative to introduce people to water sports in a fun and safe way. Although all the events are free, pre-registration is advised to ensure you have a spot when you arrive.
