Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Building Official/Manager, Building Services, the Administrative Assistant, Building Services receives and reviews various permit applications.  This position provides administrative support to the BuildingDivision which includes preparing correspondence, reports and meeting agendas/minutes, power point presentations, update website, assisting in the issuance and managing of permits and receiving applications, responding to enquiries, screening calls, making arrangements for meetings and amenities, mail sorting and distribution, file maintenance, and the performance of other support duties as assigned.  The position is often responsible for all inquiries in the absence of the Building Officials.
 
Experience and Qualifications
1.            Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, plus business and computer courses, together with one (1) to three (3) years of related experience, is required.
2.            Completion of (including final exam) the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing General Legal/Process Course.  Completion of Community Planning and Zoning Administration course an asset.
3.            Basic knowledge of Municipal government practices, Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks & Treasurers of Ontario Municipal Administration program an asset.
4.            Basic knowledge of the requirements of the Ontario Building Code relating to permit applications.  Knowledge of basic construction would be an asset.
5.            Basic knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act.  Knowledge of the Town of Collingwood’s history and geography would be an asset.
6.            Excellent administrative, communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, and public relations skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and to multi-task.
7.            Thorough working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications, and office equipment; database managementand GIS mapping skills a definite asset.  Knowledge of Cityview software an asset.
8.            Possess Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the Employer and a valid standard first aid and CPR/AED Level C certificate (or willingness to obtain).
