Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Planning and Building Services and under the general supervision of the Senior Planner, the Planner Technician will be responsible for providing general information on planning applications, planning processes, zoning inquiries and circulations and for tracking development applications.  Assist with the preparations of public notices, issuance of compliance letters and drafting/mapping services.  Prepare presentation and display materials for community and Council meetings and provides assistance to the Senior Planner as required.  The main duties and responsibilities include:  research, report writing and preparation of agreements; preparation of mapping, schedules and presentations; and, handling public inquires.
Experience and Qualifications:
  1. Degree in a planning related discipline and eligible for full or provisional membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners, together with one year of relevant professional planning experience preferably in a municipal environment.
  2. Thorough working knowledge of the Planning Act (Ontario) and the Ontario Municipal Board process; knowledge of the Condominium Act and Municipal Act.
  3. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows applications; municipal planning processes and documentation, and sound planning principles and practices.
  4. Working knowledge of GIS Applications, AutoCad, Corel Draw and Web publishing tools would be an asset.
  5. Excellent analytical, report writing, communication, presentation, organizational, interpersonal skills, together with the ability to use tact and discretion and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and fellow staff members.
  6. Valid Class G driver’s license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.  Ability and willingness to travel within the community as required.
  7. Possess a current Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the employer and a valid standard first aid and CPR/AED Level C certification (or willing to obtain).
