Note: This position is dependent upon funding through a Young Canadian Parks and Recreation Association Youth Green Jobs grant and the successful candidate must meet the eligibility criteria as stated in the grant agreement.  The grant agreement will dictate the duration of this seasonal position (number of weeks and hours per week funded).
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, this position is responsible to maintain the floral displays on municipal property, plant trees on municipal property and on public boulevards as requested and maintain the vegetation along public walkways.  This position also works with the Culture and Events division to assist with special event activities.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. OSSD or equivalent, together with three (3) months’ of related experience.
2. Ability to operate a power weed eater, roto-tiller and water pump; understand standard operating procedure manuals.
3. Knowledge of Traffic Control Measures.
4. Ability to work independently, and to deal courteously with the public, rental organizations and staff; and foster excellent working and interpersonal communications.
5. Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance functions; painting, and equipment repairs.
6. Must be physically capable to perform the duties of this position including lifting up to 40 pounds.
7. Ability to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, applicable legislation, regulations, statues and departmental policies/procedures/practices and operational guidelines.
8. Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License in good standing and Driver’s Abstract with results satisfactory to the Town.
9. Possess a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the Town and a valid standard first aid with CPR/AED level “C” certificate (or willing to obtain).
