RUNWAY IMPROVEMENTS AT COLLINGWOOD REGIONAL AIRPORT

Collingwood, ON – Representatives from the Collingwood Regional Airport Municipal Services Board joined Hon. Helena Guergis, P.C., M.P. on Monday, January 18, along with delegates from the Town of Collingwood, Town of Wasaga Beach, and Clearview Township to officially re-open the Collingwood Regional Airport. With funding from the Government of Canada, Government of Ontario, Town of Collingwood and partners, the Collingwood Regional Airport received a greatly needed $1.2 million runway rejuvenation in the summer of 2009.
Though the work at the Airport was completed last summer, stakeholders of the facility took a moment to bask in the “airport’s day in the sun” at Monday’s 2:30 p.m. reception. The Collingwood Regional Airport began as a simple grass strip more than 40 years ago, and today, through the hard work and determination of its Board Members and municipal partners, the Airport is well regarded as a significant and valuable component in the transportation infrastructure of the region.
“Given the very challenging economic realities of the past several years, those involved were practically euphoric with the prospect of capital funding assistance via the federally initiated infrastructure stimulus program. Overnight, we moved from fretting to hope and then to success as a result of this initiative. This $1.2 million investment has us back in topnotch condition and the envy of all those knowledgeable about municipal airports”, remarked Collingwood Mayor, Chris Carrier.
“I am pleased with the work that has been undertaken at the Collingwood Regional Airport. Our government through our Building Canada Fund has invested $441,000, in partnership with the Province of Ontario and the Town of Collingwood in this very important project. This is just one more example of governments working together to keep Canadians working and to stimulate the economy.” said MP Guergis.
The Collingwood Regional Airport is situated on 392 acres of land in Clearview Township fronting on the Sixth Line, South of Sideroad 33-34. Facilities include a Town-owned maintenance building and a public terminal facility with a restaurant, which is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (winter hours). Airport operation is provided by F.B.O., North 44 Airport Services. They can be reached at 705-445-2663. After hours service is also available by calling 705 441-2154
