COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Announcement of Strathcona Shield for Top Small Army Cadet Corps in Central Region for training during the 2012-2013 year
Captain Michael Kristy, on behalf of the Collingwood 929 Army Cadets and Staff, introduced two youth Corporals Dickenson and Worsley, and provided the history of the Strathcona Shield and Cadet Medal, further outlining the Collingwood Cadet Program, activities the Cadets participate and their accomplishments. Captain Kristy thanked the Town for supporting the program in Collingwood.
 
Mayor Cooper formally recognized and congratulated Captain Kristy for his work as an athletic therapist in the Canadian Armed Forces and recipient of the Canadian Armed Forces Sports Hall of Fame Honour Roll recently presented to him in Ottawa.
 
  • Council reported on various community events they had attended and announced upcoming events.
DEPUTATION
  • Curling Club of Collingwood Re: Request for additional capital facility investment Larry Young, President and Don Wilson, Past President addressed Council reviewing their two-phase approach for future facility expansion and upgrades.   Mr. Wilson reviewed the history of the club, membership, community approach, and detailed each proposed phase.  Mr Young concluded the presentation reiterating the inclusive nature of their organization and addressed questions from council.   Mayor Cooper thanked the Curling Club for their commitment and dedication and noted that their request will be considered during the budget deliberations.

THAT Council hereby authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute the prescribed Council Support Resolutions required by the Ontario Power Authority FIT Rules, Version 3.0 for Applications being submitted by PowerStream Inc. to construct and operate a 200 kW Rooftop Solar System on 30 Sandford Fleming Drive, Collingwood and a 70kW Rooftop Solar System on 80 High Street, Collingwood, as attached hereto.

THAT Staff Report P2013-31, recommendingCouncil supports the issuance of a Manufacturer’s Limited Liquor Sales License by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to the Collingwood Brewery Ltd., which is located at 10 Sandford Fleming Drive in Collingwood, Ontario; be approved.

  • Councillor Mike Edwards expressed concern with the lack of food services available at the arena facilities.

THAT Council request staff prepare a report for consideration in the 2014 Budget discussion to investigate the cost for the municipality to operate the canteen(s) and/or alternative service options to increase food services/availability at the arena(s).
