Tourism Labour Supply Task Force (PDF copy of presentation)
Andrew Siegwart - President - Blue Mountain Village Association
Andrew Siegwart, President, Blue Mountain Village Association provided an update to Council on the efforts and findings of the South Georgian Bay Tourism Industry Labour Supply Task Force. He discussed the tourism industry’s difficulty in finding staff, noting that tourism workers aren’t just service industry workers.
The Task Force has conducted research studies, created surveys on child care needs, held workshops with businesses, consulted municipal planning departments and engaged in community outreach, all in an effort to make a positive impact on the labour market and the local economy. Siegwart outlined the Task Force’s next steps, including a transit forum, an Employer One survey and retaining a housing consultant who will create a business case for more attainable housing.
The following three items were received for information.
PRC Master Plan Consultation (PDF copy of presentation)
Pierre Chauvin and Jon Linton - MHBC Planning
Pierre Chauvin gave Council an overview of the purpose of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Framework for Well-Being and the progress achieved so far.
Jon Linton led Council members in a discussion of the strengths, areas for improvement and challenges for the future of PRC.
Pierre provided a review of the feedback received so far, highlighting the sense of Collingwood as a healthy place to live, and that PRC helps to bring the community together and encourages physical activity. It was noted that barriers to participation include lack of time, lack of knowledge of what is being offered and fees that are perceived to be too high.
The PRC Framework survey is available online or at all PRC facilities until February 28, and the next public open house will be held in April. The public was also reminded that everyone who completes the survey will be entered for a chance to win a $500 gift certificate.
