The Town of Collingwood has launched its public engagement period to gather input from residents and property owners on how the Town should allocate tax dollars in 2023.
Each year municipalities are faced with the challenge of creating a balanced budget. A municipality can take on debt to pay for large capital acquisitions, however it must ensure that there is enough money to fund day-to-day operations. To balance the budget, a careful analysis must be done regarding the level of services required to meet the needs and expectations of the community and realistic taxation and user fee levels.
The Budget is one of the most important matters your elected Council will decide, and your input will help Council identify key investments and priorities and balance them with tax and fee changes. A balanced budget will allow the municipality to run well, including professional staff who provide recommendations and advice to Council in setting the Town on a good path toward our future vision.

There will be multiple opportunities for the public to provide input, including a public survey (link below) and opportunities to speak at all Strategic Initiatives Standing Committee meetings. Public presentations of the Draft Budget are expected to occur in December. Further details will be shared closer to these presentation and engagement opportunities.
Residents and property owners in the Town of Collingwood are invited to complete the budget survey at: https://engage.collingwood.ca/2023-municipal-budget-join-the-conversation. Paper copies of the survey are available at Town Hall, 97 Hurontario Street. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 26, at 4:30 p.m. By filling out the survey you can be entered for a chance to win a $200 gift card for a Collingwood restaurant of your choice.
