Trails

Traffic on the Collingwood Trails is up noticeably this year in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic. With all team sports activities on hold for children, much of this additional traffic is families with young children.

While it is very encouraging to see more families using the trails, the additional traffic can create conflicts among the diverse user groups.

Main user groups are walkers, dog walkers, and cyclists. Some of the complaints that the Town has received are about dogs not being on a leash, pedestrians walking side by side (physical distancing) across the trail, and cyclists speeding and not signalling their presence when passing slower walkers.

  • Walkers - please stay to the right of the trail
  • Dog walkers - please keep your dog on a leash
  • Cyclists - please control your speed and sound a warning when passing slower walkers from behind.
  • And please remember that pedestrians always have the right of way.

Bottom line is that all our trails are multi-use facilities and we must all be sensitive to the needs of all user groups. Please SHARE THE TRAIL!
