Collingwood Town Council has come out on top

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, the three local municipal councils – Collingwood, Clearview Township, and Wasaga Beach – submitted their last round of numbers as part of a summer competition to promote healthy living and see which council could log the most number of steps.

Collingwood bested Clearview and Wasaga Beach with a final count of 3,724.85 kilometres. That is almost equivalent to walking from Collingwood to Halifax, Nova Scotia and back.

“Thank you to the Councils of Clearview Township, Wasaga Beach, and Collingwood for this friendly challenge,” said Mayor Brian Saunderson, “Council had a blast all summer being active and healthy on our amazing Collingwood trail system, our scenic roads, on our historic harbour, and along our beautiful waterfront.”

The challenge started Canada Day and wrapped up at the end of Labour Day weekend.

For winning the competition, Collingwood council members will get bragging rights and the opportunity to see the Town of Collingwood municipal flag fly for a two-week period at the municipal offices in Clearview and Wasaga Beach. Details on the flag raising must still be determined.

The final numbers are as follows:

Town of Collingwood
3724.85 kilometres
Township of Clearview
3097.05 kilometres
Town of Wasaga Beach
2935.72 kilometres
