As part of the province’s measures to respond to COVID-19, in April 2020, the provincial government introduced temporary limits on municipal authority to regulate noise from construction to help support expedited construction of healthcare and other projects. The temporary measures have supported construction of critical healthcare-related infrastructure, while helping to protect the health and safety of construction workers throughout the pandemic.

These temporary changes are now scheduled to expire on October 7, 2021. As such, from October 7 onwards, the Town of Collingwood (and other municipalities) will again have the authority to regulate construction noise in their communities at all times of day and night. Therefore, the Town of Collingwood would like to remind all developers, builders, and homeowners of the Town’s Noise By-law regulations as they relate to construction activities.

Noise due to construction activities is only permitted during the established time periods listed below:

Domestic or homeowner construction equipment noise
Permitted:
•    Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
•    Saturday/Sunday/Holidays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Construction Equipment Noise
Permitted:
•    Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
•    Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Construction equipment noise from “site alteration” activities on “active development” sites
Permitted:
•    Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
