Crossing Guard at Hamilton Drain Trail

Effective Tuesday, October 12th the Town of Collingwood will be placing a school crossing guard at the Hurontario Street crossing by the Hamilton Drain Trail temporarily, until the new mid-block pedestrian signal is installed sometime in late December. The crossing guard will be posted at this location Monday to Friday (starting on Tuesday October 12, 2021) between the hours of 8:25 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and again from 3:25 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

A reminder to drivers, according to the Highway Traffic Act, where a school crossing guard displays a school crossing stop sign, the driver of any vehicle approaching the school crossing guard shall stop before reaching the crossing and shall remain stopped until all persons, including the school crossing guard, have cleared the roadway and it is safe to proceed. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in a fine being issued to the operator of the vehicle.

Town of Collingwood crossing guards are dedicated and compassionate, they seek to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safely. Crossing guards endure all weather conditions rain or shine, and oftentimes sub-zero temperatures. Parents are asked to teach their children to obey the crossing guard’s instructions for their own safety.

Did you know October is International Walk to School month? Adding a walk or wheel to your child’s journey to school is a great way to set them up for learning each day. Active Transportation supports wellbeing, is important for mental health and helps ease traffic congestion in our school zones.

Visit the Town of Collingwood’s website at www.collingwood.ca/town-services/law-enforcement/school-crossing-guards for a list of where the crossing guards are located to help you and your child determine the safest route to school.
