Huron Street tree cutting

Tree clearing activity may commence as early as March 29th April 13th and is expected to be completed within 2 weeks of the start date, in order to accommodate sidewalk construction adjacent to 65 Huron Street. The Town intends to remove all trees between the Huron Street north sidewalk and the existing asphalt trail, with the exception of some large hybrid poplars located outside the limit of work at the east end.

Nearly all the trees within the proposed clearing area had already been marked for removal by the Town as a component of their Emerald Ash Borer/Ash management strategy. The understory shrubs in the proposed clearing area are generally a mix of buckthorn, Tartarian honeysuckle, and multiflora rose, which are invasive species.

The Town will be constructing a 3.0m sidewalk along Huron Street to replace the existing winding asphalt trail, which is often inundated due to the rise of Georgian Bay levels.
This new stretch of sidewalk will restore pedestrian access to Niagara Street. This work is expected to be completed by summer 2021.
