Proclamation - National Children's Grief Awareness Day - November 17

WHEREAS, It is estimated that 1 in every 14 children will lose a parent or sibling
before the age of 18, and over 203,000 Canadian youth under the age of 18 will lose someone in their extended family in a single year, and each year, roughly 1.2 million children in Canada experience the separation or divorce of their parents during their childhood; and 

WHEREAS, The loss of a parental figure, family member, or friend can result in a variety of mental and physical health compromising issues for a child, especially when they're not given an adequate opportunity to grieve and heal; and 

WHERAS, Rainbows For All Children Canada is on a mission to break this vicious cycle by holding Children's Grief Awareness Day on Thursday, November 17th, 2022, to show grieving children in Canada that they are loved and that there are support systems available to them, wherever and whenever they need it.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Keith Hull, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,

DO HEREBY PROCLAIM November 17, 2022 as “National Children’s Grief Awareness Day” in the Town of Collingwood.
