Proclamation - October 2020 is Dyslexia Awareness Month

WHEREAS,  Dyslexia is a lifelong learning disability which makes it difficult to learn to read, write and spell; and  
WHEREAS,  It is estimated that 10 – 15% of the general population struggles with dyslexia; and  
WHEREAS, The month of October is recognized as Dyslexia Awareness Month in many countries, cities and organizations; and  
WHEREAS, Dyslexia Canada is a national charity which aims to create dyslexia awareness and ensure that every child with dyslexia has meaningful access to education; and  
WHEREAS, Dyslexia Awareness Month acknowledges that schools, families, and communities need to better understand dyslexia and its impact on learning and well-being; and  
WHEREAS, proclaiming October as Dyslexia Awareness Month in the Town of Collingwood will raise awareness and support for children with dyslexia in our community.  
NOW THEREFORE, I, Brian Saunderson, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood, 
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM that October 2020, be designated as Dyslexia Awareness Month in the Town of Collingwood.
