Proclamation - World Fragile X Day - July 22, 2022

WHEREAS, Fragile X syndrome is the most common known cause of inherited intellectual disability and the leading known single-gene cause of autism. Fragile X occurs when a single gene shuts down a gene vital to normal brain function; 

AND WHEREAS, Raising awareness for Fragile X is crucial as it helps to accelerate progress toward effective treatments and ultimately a cure;

AND WHEREAS, The Fragile X Research Foundation of Canada is working with Fragile X organizations around the globe on a worldwide project to illuminate buildings, landmarks, and bridges in the colour blue for World Fragile X Day on July 22. 

NOW THEREFORE, I, Keith Hull, Acting Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,

DO HEREBY PROCLAIM July 22, 2022 as “World Fragile X Day” in the Town of Collingwood.
