Significant Rainfall caused partial by-pass at WWTP
Due to the significant rainfall received in Collingwood Thursday, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) experienced a partial treatment by-pass which ended at 8:40 p.m.
Influent sewage flows at the WWTP exceeded 60,000 m3/d yesterday and approximately 930 m3 of these flows by-passed the final treatment stage (UV disinfection); however they were chlorinated for disinfection.
As per the Town’s Operating Procedure, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, Spills Action Centre and Medical Officer of Health were notified and samples of the discharges were collected.
Staff are seeing flows in the range of 32,000 m3/d at the WWTP this morning, which is within the treatment capacity of the WWTP. Environmental Services staff are working with Public Works staff to monitor the sanitary system.
