The Town of Collingwood is inviting artists and artist collectives to submit their application for the design and execution of a site-specific, outdoor mural for the east facing wall of the Shipyards Medical Building at 28 Huron Street. A volunteer Public Art Committee of Collingwood residents established the process and concept for the artwork based on the Town’s public art policies and procedures. They are looking for the artwork to create excitement and interest in the community, enhance the space, and reflect a contemporary aesthetic of a vibrant and dynamic Collingwood.

There was a mural previously on the wall called Heading Dockside and it was removed after a remarkable 19 years at the site. The artist, Beverley Smith is one of the committee members seeking new art for the wall along with Joanne Weisbrod, one of the building owners, Lisa Kang’ethe, Lenore Burton and Patricia Andrew. The artwork will be completed remotely using aluminum composite panels and the installation is planned for September.

The search process will take place in two stages. For this first stage, the committee is looking for artists to submit their application including their credentials and examples of current and past work. The committee will then select 2-3 artists to provide more details including their design for the mural. The deadline for this first stage is February 11, 2020, at 4:00 PM. Complete details are available at www.collingwood.ca/publicart.
