Town Launches plan for creating next Economic Development Action Plan
The Town of Collingwood has started working on its next Economic Development Action Plan. This plan, which was recently presented to Council, will define the areas of focus for the Town, complementing the broader Community Based Strategic Plan. A strategic economic plan is an important part of supporting the Town of Collingwood’s vision of offering a healthy, affordable, four-season lifestyle to all residents, businesses, and visitors in a community where people want to live and work.
The Town will be proceeding with a framework that engages local business leaders and the broader community. One part of this framework is the creation of the Mayor’s Advisory Team on Economic Development. Applications are now being accepted for this Advisory Team, which will bring a diverse perspective from experienced business leaders who are connected to Collingwood. Successful candidates will bring expertise in marketing, investment attraction, operations, finance, or economic development with experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Established successful ‘large’ business in Town
- High growth, newer and ‘smaller’ business in Town
- Recognized business leader with experience on large scale growth project(s)
- Entrepreneurial, established business leader considering investing in Collingwood’s emerging tech hub
- Private or public sector expert in attracting companies to invest and grow in smaller communities
“This is a unique opportunity for business leaders who have a passion for Collingwood’s economic and business growth to guide the next 5 year Economic Development Action Plan” commented Mayor Brian Saunderson, “This plan will help established businesses grow, attract investors, employers, as well as entrepreneurs, and ensure the right conditions exist for the new wave of businesses coming to, and growing in, Collingwood.”
Advanced technology firms are increasingly establishing operations in Collingwood diversifying the economy by adding 21st century technology and manufacturing success stories to a local market well known as a four-season playground. Over the last few years Collingwood has been recognized for its energy, creativity, and natural beauty by being ranked Ontario #1 entrepreneurship community in Canada by the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses in 2019, recognized as a top 25 town to live in by Maclean’s Magazine, and ranked top outdoor region in Eastern Canada by Get Out There Magazine.
