The Town of Collingwood is pleased to share that we have received a substantial Community Building Fund – Capital grant in late 2021 to tile the community pool at the Centennial Aquatic Centre.

The Centennial Aquatic Centre is used by many residents and visitors to Collingwood through swimming lessons, lane swim, aqua therapy and more. “Thanks to $394,000 from the Government of Ontario and Ontario Trillium Foundation to tile the pool, we will be able to keep our pool cleaner and useable all year long, as tiling the pool will eliminate the need to close annually for cleaning or painting,” says Mel Milanovic, Manager, Recreation Facilities.

In 2013 the town of Collingwood covered the 54-year-old outdoor pool, as there was an urgent need for an indoor pool in the community.  The pool underwent some modifications at that time but was left as a concrete tank.  Since then, the concrete tank has been painted several times however it was noticed that the problem with paint is that it flakes over time and creates visibility issues for lifeguards.

The Collingwood Clippers have their annual end of year swim meet June 25th & 26th, and the pool will officially close on the 27th for the summer while the tiling project is undertaken. The work is anticipated to be completed early this fall and a ribbon cutting will be planned closer to the re-opening.

The Centennial Aquatics Centre is committed to preserving this space and ensuring that it remains accessible for many community activities throughout the year. Information about aquatics programs and pool rentals can be found at: https://www.collingwood.ca/aquatic-programs.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. Last year, nearly $112M was invested into 1,384 community projects and partnerships to build healthy and vibrant communities and strengthen the impact of Ontario’s non-profit sector. In 2020/21, OTF supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
