Treaties Recognition Week
Collingwood, ON [1 November 2021] –Treaties Recognition Week falls the first week of November, a time to increase awareness and understanding of treaty relationships between Indigenous Nations and the Crown.
Learning about treaties and treaty relationships is a part of Truth and Reconciliation. Within our Land Acknowledgement the Town recognizes Treaty 18 and makes a statement of understanding about the territory that includes Collingwood. This is done to honour all Indigenous peoples who have lived on these lands, and who continue to provide inspiration, contributions, and stewardship in our communities.
As part of Treaties Recognition Week, the Town has added new content to its webpage, an opportunity to learn more and connect with the Treaty holders in our area. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Saugeen Ojibway Nation for their sharing of resources and supporting our learning.
