Collingwood, ON [Monday, October 19, 2020] - A poet, writer, student, and advocate for the environment, Claudia Ferraro has had her poetry displayed at the Dalhousie Art Gallery and published in Fathom, a literary magazine for both Dalhousie and King’s Universities of which she is a senior editor and head of their social media and marketing team. 

Ferraro was formally announced as the 2020-2022 Collingwood Poet Laureate during the October 19 Town Council meeting, an honour officially handed over by the Town’s first Poet Laureate Day Merrill, now Poet Laureate Emeritus.

Join Collingwood Museum staff on October 29 at 7:00 p.m. to explore the spooky side of the Victorian era through a selection of macabre objects from the museum’s artifact collection. The Victorian Halloween event will be broadcast on Facebook Live, so you can enjoy from the comfort of your home. 

Victorian culture is rich with imagery that we still associate with Halloween today. Whether it's haunted mansions, gruesome medical practices, gothic literature, or elaborate mourning rituals, many Victorian practices can be found in our favourite horror movies and Halloween traditions.

Collingwood Library Opens Second Floor to Patrons

On Tuesday, October 13 the Collingwood Public Library will be reopening the second floor to allow patrons to access the non-fiction sections and computers.  

“After a successful first floor opening and having our elevator serviced, we feel it is time to open the second floor to patrons,” says Chief Executive Officer, Ken Haigh. “This allows for patrons to access more materials on their own and allow for more public computers to be available.”

As of Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 a.m., the Centennial Aquatic Centre will commence online registration for fall lessons.  The swim lesson schedule will be available to view on Tuesday, October 13 (a selection of classes will be offered with limited spaces) and lessons will begin Tuesday, October 27.
