Mary Linda Tait paints illustrative, colorful and fanciful vignettes of Collingwood and Simcoe County. Her subjects range from farmhouses, historical landmarks, and rural roads on the rolling escarpment to recreational pursuits. She was born and raised in Montreal and her work is greatly influenced by French-Canadian artists, especially those from the Charlevoix Region.
Mary Linda was the Manager of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Gift Gallery from 2016-18. There she discovered that Georgian Bay had an abundance of proficient, gifted and established painters of "fine art" landscape. When a broken kneecap resulted in time at home to heal, Mary Linda, with her lifelong passion for art and painting, decided to create whimsical and sometimes playful scenes of the rural beauty surrounding her.
"My imaginative interpretations of local scenes, from Collingwood's farmers market to the escarpment littered with working farms and vineyards to the recreational pursuits provided by the four seasons, are designed to evoke a happy memory or a fond recollection of a simpler time.”
Mary Linda's paintings have sold at the BMFA, The Loft Gallery in Thornbury, Quest Art Gallery in Midland and the Sidestreet Gallery in Wellington, PEC. Her paintings can be found on Instagram@mltait218.
