Purpose: To regulate animal control and ensure responsible pet ownership.
Purpose: Requiring the owner or occupier of land to clean or to clear refuse or debris from land and to ensure properties to be maintained in a safe condition and kept clear of refuse.
Examples of Refuse:
- Household appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers dryers, air conditioners and dishwashers, and television sets and their component parts
- Household furniture such as beds, bed springs, mattresses, tables, chairs and their component parts
- Barrels, boxes, water and fuel tanks (empty only)
- Motor vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, bicycles, trailers, go-karts, boats, or vessels, all terrain vehicles which are in a wrecked, discarded, inoperatiVe or dismantled condition, in whole or in part, and their component parts
- Boulders, bricks, concrete, asphalt, glass scrap wood, scrap metal, scrap wire, paint cans, cardboard, paper, plastics, Styrofoam, roofing shingles (scrap), discarded clothes or cloth and canvas
- Felled trees, tree stumps, branches, brush, leaves, bagged or piled grass and weeds, hedge cuttings, open compost piles and garden waste
- Household refuse, (bagged or not) not set out for collection, scrap construction materials, dead animal carcasses, animal feces
- All waste deemed as recyclables per By-law No. 98-09 of the Town oT Collingwood, including: Newspapers and inserts, glass bottles and jars, steel and aluminum cans, all PETE #1 and #2 plastic, magazines, and phone books, catalogues, aluminum trays and foil, boxboard (i.e. cereal boxes) fibre egg cartons
- Tires, wrecked, dismantled, discarded playground equipment, beverage containers, fast food bags, containers and wrappings
- Industrial, commercial or any hazardous liquid waste (i.e. motor oil, gasoline)
- Waste from demolished buildings, discarded signs and placards
- Straw, hay and manure
- Excavated materials (i.e. earth, gravel)
By-laws provided in the below link include powers and duties delegated to certain officers and employees of the Corporation of the Town of Collingwood through various pieces of legislation such as the Municipal Act, Planning Act, Building Code, etc.
Purpose: To prohibit the feeding of wildlife.
Purpose: To regulate the building and maintenance of fence structures within the Town of Collingwood.
Purpose: To designate private roadways as emergency fire routes along which no parking of vehicles shall be permitted.
Purpose: To prohibit and regulate the sale and the setting off of fireworks
Fireworks By-law No. 2012-064 (As Amended)
Purpose: No person can make or permit an unreasonable noise or a noise that is likely to disturb their neighbours in Collingwood.
Purpose: You may only park your vehicle on a street where permitted. Any vehicle parked in a metered spot must have paid the meter and must not exceed the maximum time limit posted for that spot. Municipal Law Enforcement Officers or Police Officers may issue a parking ticket and/or remove your vehicle at your expense if you do not comply with posted parking restrictions.
Purpose: All property owners must maintain and repair the interior and exterior of their property in accordance with certain standards. These standards are put in place to protect the health and safety of occupants and the general public.
Purpose: To regulate all outdoor signs and advertising space. This by-law ensures that signs are not a safety hazard and assists in maintaining a clean and positive image for our town.
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA) was recently updated and expanded to include e-cigarette vaping and cannabis. The Act regulates the sale, supply, display and promotion of tobacco and vapour products. As well, it regulates where smoking of tobacco or cannabis and vaping of any substance is prohibited.
The SFOA states:
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited inside workplaces and public places, including work vehicles.
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited on playgrounds and sporting areas, and within 20 metres of those locations.
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited inside a car with anyone under 16 years of age (cannabis use is banned at all times in a vehicle or boat being driven by or under someone's care or control).
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited on hospital property and within nine metres of a hospital entrance.
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited on the outdoor grounds of a community recreational facility, and within 20 metres of the grounds.
- Vaping and smoking tobacco and cannabis are prohibited on the outdoor grounds of a school, and within 20 metres of the grounds.
- Employers and business owners must post provincial No Vaping and No Smoking signage at their premises. These signs are available from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
In the community, the health unit's tobacco enforcement officers are responsible for enforcing compliance of all indoor and outdoor places designated 100% smoke and vape free under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. They are also responsible for the inspection and enforcement of all tobacco and e-cigarette retailers for compliance with the laws governing the sale, display and promotion of tobacco and e-cigarette (vape) products.
To register a complaint about a business or workplace not in compliance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, or a store that is selling to youth under 19 years of age, call or e-mail Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 and a tobacco enforcement officer will follow up.
Purpose: To regulate enclosures for privately-owned outdoor swimming pools.
