The County of Simcoe is responsible for all garbage and organic waste pick-up in Collingwood and other municipalities within Simcoe County.
As of January 1, 2026, recycling collection in Simcoe County has changed. Recycling is now managed by Circular Materials under Ontario’s new recycling program. Recycling is collected by Emterra on behalf of Circular Materials. Residents will continue to use the same carts and follow the same collection schedule.
For any questions regarding recycling collection, including collection schedules, accepted materials, cart repairs, or any other questions, please contact Emterra Environmental by phone at 1-888-597-1541 or email at customercareont@emterra.ca

New Pickup Dates

General Information
- Place your carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day and ensure empty carts or any refused materials are removed from the curb by 7:00 p.m. of the following day. If required, you can place your carts at the curb in advance, but no earlier than 5:00 p.m. the night before your scheduled collection day.
- Green bin collection occurs every week, whereas garbage and recycling collection alternate every other week (one week garbage, the next week recycling)
- Recycling does not need to be separated into different bins, as materials are sorted later in the process
- Excess recyclables can be placed in bins, cardboard boxes, or see-through plastic bags
- Excess garbage can be placed in garbage bags 2ft from the rolling carts with garbage bag tags affixed. Max 5 tagged bags of extra material per collection week
Winter Waste Disposal: Setting out Your Carts
- When shovelling, clear a flat spot at the end of your driveway or at the curb for your carts
- Place carts within eight feet of the traveled portion of the road, which ensures the automated arm can reach while allowing room for snow-clearing equipment to pass
- Don't place carts behind or on top of snowbanks
