Aquatic Programs
The Centennial Aquatic Centre offers various programs outlined by Lifesaving Society standards. We offer public swims, Aquafit, lane swims, Learn to Swim lessons, Lifesaving Leadership courses and Standard First Aid & CPR.

- Staff Shortage: Please check the website before you arrive. We are entering cold & flu season which will greatly impact our programming if staff get sick. We will post all last minute closures on the Town website and Social Media channels.
WEEKLY SCHEDULES:
Please be sure to check the schedule on this website before arriving so that you are arriving at the most up-to-date program time. Schedules change without notice so it is important that you review the schedules below. Program scheduling and pool capacities will be based on lifeguard availability. Please check the Admission Policy below for details regarding children's admission to public swim programs. Currently we are closed on Sundays.

Swim Schedule - December 9th - 15th
Coaching Hour: This hour has been set aside for coaches and their athletes to get some extra coaching time. Coaches are required to be on deck providing instruction during these times. Coaches may book a maximum of 2 lanes and must provide a certificate of insurance at time of booking (if not currently on file). For more information or to book, please contact the Customer Service.
Baby & Me AquaFit: This program will be offered on Thursdays and will begin again in the New Year.
Pre-Registration is required for Baby & Me AquaFit. Registration will open 1 week prior to the class you wish to attend. When registering, please just register the parent/guardian. Should you register but then are unable to attend, please call to withdraw so that we can register someone else.
Enjoy a full body workout and some fun with your 4 months to 2 year old child in the pool with our Baby & Me AquaFit class. Our welcoming easy-going environment allows you to meet other parents & babies and enjoy the benefits of postnatal exercise. Each class includes cardio, core and muscular endurance while incorporating your baby through the movements.
Please dress baby in an official swim diaper and bring a water bottle. We provide a floatie or lifejacket for each class. All fitness levels are welcome! Moms, dads, grandparents or other caregivers are welcome.
Indoor Walking: This program will begin the week of November 18th. See the weekly pool schedule for times (beginning week of November 18th).
Drop-In Swim Programming
Pre-registration for drop-in programs is currently not required. Please note that "Family Swim" times on the schedule are designated for families only. This includes Guardians/parents + children. No adult swimming available during these times. Drop-In Swimming fees are listed at the bottom of the page in the Swim Admission Pricing section.
Aquatherapy
Fall Session #2 - currently underway completing December 16th.
The 2024 fee is $80. We ask that you sign up for one day per week only due to high demand. If you wish to have an additional day per week, please speak with the Customer Service Representative and they will put you on a waiting list. Class begins 12:00 p.m. through to 12:50 p.m.
Swim Lessons
The Centennial Aquatic Centre is a proud Affiliate of the Lifesaving Society. We offer programs for babies through to aquatic leadership. The Swim for Life program stresses lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. Valuable Water Smart® education is incorporated throughout all levels of the program. The Lifesaving Society provides a fun and challenging progression of lifesaving training programs. At the CAC we offer the Canadian Swim Patrol and the 3 Bronze medal awards that are designed for swimmers between 8 and 15 years of age. Our first aid certifications focus on the practical ABCs of lifesaving.

Winter Lessons
Winter lesson registration will take place online Tuesday, January 7th at 7:00 a.m. The session will begin the week of January 18th and will finish the week of March 30th for most classes.
Adult Learn to Swim Lessons:
Adult 1:
- Take your first steps towards learning to swim! Learn to enter and exit the water safely, take your first trip to the deep end, and feel more comfortable being under water. In this class you will work towards a 10-15m swim on both your front and back, and improve your fitness and flutter kick with 4 x 9-12m interval training.
- Program will be offered Sunday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
- Online registration opens January 7th, 2025 at 7:00 a.m.
Adult 2:
- Kick it up a notch working on two interval training workouts of 4 x 25 m kicking and front or back crawl. You'll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 10-15 m. You'll be supporting yourself at the surface for 1-2 minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water.
- Program will be offered Sunday evenings from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Online registration opens January 7th, 2025 at 7:00 a.m.
Adult 3:
- No sweat (or at least none anyone can see). You'll learn eggbeater, stride entries and compact jumps. You'll be doing a 300m workout and sprinting 25-50m. You'll learn to master your front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. WHEW
- Program will be offered Sunday evenings from 6:40 p.m. to 7:40 p.m.

Program Registrations - Create Your New Account
Swim lesson sessions are scheduled seasonally, consisting of 1 lesson a week for 8 weeks. Fall programming typically begins in October, Winter programming in January, Spring programming in late April/early May and summer programming in July. Registration dates will be posted to the website once details are available.
TIP: Lessons fill up quickly! Be sure to create your account or update your login credentials so that you are prepared to register for swim lessons when registration opens.
Participant Report Cards:

- Click on the course name to review instructor comments, recommendations and a list of skills displayed.
Your child's instructor will provide the participant number on the final day of class and let you know when report cards will be available. If you don't know what your participant number is you can reach out to our customer service team to provide it to you at prc@collingwood.ca. Your child's participant number will stay the same from session to session.
Advanced/Leadership Aquatics
Bronze Star
Bronze Star develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport.
Dates: Tuesday evenings, 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, October 15th through to December 3rd (8 weeks) Registration opens September 16th at 12:00 p.m.
Pre-requisite: None (Swim Patrol experience highly recommended)
Swim Requirements: None
Cost: $149 +HST

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid
Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem- solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water.
Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Bronze Cross.

Pre-requisite: Must be 13 years of age by the end of the course OR have successfully completed Bronze Star
Swim Requirements: must swim 400m in 12 minutes or less
Cost: $100 + HST

Bronze Cross
This course begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the p.m. importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

Pre-requisite: Must be 13 years of age by the end of the course AND have successfully completed Bronze Medallion
Swim Requirements: must swim 400m in 11 minutes or less
Cost: $260 + HST

Standard First Aid & CPR-C (required for National Lifeguard)
Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification.
The first aid program is not restricted to aquatic candidates. You can use the Lifesaving Society's first aid awards to train non-aquatic staff (camp, playground, maintenance, etc.) and the general public.
Dates: September 28th - October 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Registration opens August 1st at 12:00 p.m.
Pre-requisite: None
Cost: $162.50 + HST

National Lifeguard Pool - Full Certification
National Lifeguard is a legal certificate for lifeguarding throughout the country and is recognized and required by the province of Ontario for lifeguarding public swimming pools.
Dates: October 20th - December 8th, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sundays. Registration opens August 1st at 12:00 p.m.
Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years of age (by August 23, 2024) AND have successfully completed Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid (need not be current) either from the Lifesaving Society or an approved provider.
Cost: $318 + HST
** 100% attendance is required
Lifesaving Swim Instructor
This course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.
Dates: January 2nd to 4th and January 11th, 2025. Registration will open October 15th.
Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years of age by end of the course AND have successfully completed Bronze Cross (need not be current) either from the Lifesaving Society or an approved provider.
Cost: $169.50 + HST

This policy ensures all swimmers - regardless of swim ability - have a safe and enjoyable time in the pool. We encourage all swimmers to consult our Admission Policy prior to their visit and contact us should they have questions. Remember, Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian (14+).
- At any time, participants will be required to complete a swim test as requested by the lifeguard.
- Infants & Small Children - Cannot be left unattended on the pool deck. Participants 1 year of age and under MUST be accompanied by a guardian who is a minimum of 15 years of age. Car seats and strollers must be left in the designated areas. Children who are not toilet-trained are required to wear a swim/pool diaper under suitable bathing attire - regular diapers are not permitted. Each guardian must be in the pool and may only bring a maximum of four children between the ages of 6 and 14, and maximum of two under 6 years of age.
- Swim Attire - All participants must wear appropriate bathing attire. Shoes are not permitted on the deck or in the shower area. Patrons wearing street clothes are welcome to watch from our Observation Room.
- Family/Accessible Change Room - Intended for the following uses:
- Children aged 4+ accompanied by opposite gender guardian.
- Families wishing to change together.
- Individuals with special needs accompanied by an opposite gender support worker.
- All other visitors are asked to use gender specific change rooms.
- Warm-Water Pool & Deep End Use - The Warm-Water pool has a max. capacity of 25 guests and may require swimmers to await availability for entry. Swimmers under 16 years of age are required to successfully complete a deep end swim test - Admission Policy will apply to children below the age of 10 who have successfully completed swim test.
- Videos & Photographs - The use of recording devices is prohibited in all change rooms, washrooms, and on deck. Picture taking is only permitted on designated days during swim lessons. We ask that anyone wishing to take pictures first obtain permission from aquatic staff. This is to respect the privacy and safety of all patrons.
Please note that we do not allow lap style swimming in the Warm Water Pool.

- Lane Swim - Main pool designated for lengths & warm-water pool for exercise. Ages 16 years+. Lane markers for "slow, medium, fast" swimmers, lanes can be shared.
- Leisure Swim - Lanes available for lengths in the main pool & open for general exercise. Both pools available. 16 years+
- Family Swim - Designated for families (guardians/parents + child(ren)), both pools available. No adult swimming available during these times.
- Youth Swim - Open access to both pools. Ages 10-17.
- Open Swim - Open access to both pools. All ages may attend.
- Aquafit - Instructed Aqua Aerobics access to both pools with music. Ages 16 years+
- Uninstructed Aquafit - access to both pools for self-directed exercise with music. Ages 16 years+
- Aquatherapy - Instructed therapeutic exercises, warm water pool only. Registration is required.
Admission policy is in effect for all swim programs.
Programs are non-refundable and non-transferable. Should the Town of Collingwood cancel programs beyond the control of our patrons, a credit will be processed to your account to use for a future activity.
Refunds will not be issued for "no shows". If you cannot make your scheduled time, please log into your account and follow the steps to cancel. This will bump someone from the waitlist into your spot. If you cannot access your account or have trouble cancelling, please call the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department to request a transfer to another day/time. Transfers can only be accommodated if space is available.
Instructed and Un-Instructed Aquafit options are available. Refer to the weekly drop-in schedule for times. Depending on staff numbers, spaces may be limited to ensure safe lifeguard to swimmer ratios.
The Warm Water Pool will be available for therapeutic exercises. Lap style swimming is not permitted in this pool.
Aqua Therapy is an 8-week session which requires registration. Victoria Galletta of Pure Movement will be the instructor of this course. Please login to your PerfectMind account to register.
The Collingwood Aquatic Centre offers Lifesaving Leadership courses which prepare participants to become National Lifeguard Service certified. These courses are suitable for swimmers between 8 and 15 years of age. Beginning with the Canadian Swim Patrol, progressing to three Bronze medal awards.
