Gifted to the Town of Collingwood in 1965 by the Kiwanis Club of Collingwood to mark their golden anniversary, the chain of office was crafted to reflect the historic character of the Town of Collingwood , with each of the medallions representing a part of that important history which built our beautiful and desirable community.
The Municipal Act establishes specific duties that set apart the role of the mayor and their leadership and ceremonial responsibilities and the chain of office helps represent and acknowledge the importance and traditional role of that office. As such, the chain of office is usually only worn by the Mayor during official Town functions and special occassions.
The names of the current and all past Mayor's of Collingwood are inscribed on small plaques between each of the medallions that adorn the chain.
