The information below has been provided to assist in summarizing some of the typical requirements to obtain a stand alone building permit for plumbing within the Town of Collingwood. Additional information may be required depending on the application type and individual circumstances.
Plumbing: Water/ Sewer Repair or Replacement
We understand the needing to repair or replace a sewer or water line is often the result of an unexpected and stressful situation. Whether due to a sudden break, aging infrastructure, or an emergency, these issues can disrupt your daily life and require urgent attention. To help ease the process during this challenging time, we recommend working closely with your plumbing contractor, who can assist you in navigating the necessary steps.
If you're unsure about the location of a sewer blockage, please visit the Roads and Sidewalks page and scroll down to "Sewer Blockage" section for more information. For issues related to water pipes, visit Water Services.
The following instructions outline how to apply for the required permit to begin your sewer or water line repair or replacement on private property.

Plumbing - Interior Work
A permit is typically required if you're adding new fixtures or relocating existing ones. You don't need a permit to replace existing plumbing fixtures. To confirm whether your specific project requires a permit, please contact us directly at building@collingwood.ca.
Note: A separate plumbing permit is not necessary if the work is already covered under a broader permit - such as one for a basement finish, interior renovation, or home addition.
