The Centennial Aquatic Centre offers various programs outlined by Lifesaving Society standards. We offer public swims, Aquafit, lane swims, Learn to Swim lessons, Lifesaving Leadership courses and Standard First Aid & CPR.

Weekly Schedules

Please be sure to check the schedule on this website before arriving so that you are arriving at the most up-to-date program time. Schedules change without notice, so it is important that you review them below. Program scheduling and pool capacities will be based on lifeguard availability. Please check the Admission Policy below for details regarding children's admission to public swim programs.

Drop-In Swim Programming

Pre-registration for drop-in programs is currently not required. Please note that "Family Swim" times on the schedule are designated for families only. This includes Guardians/parents + children. No adult swimming is available during these times. Drop-in swimming fees are listed at the bottom of the page in the Swim Admission Pricing section.

Aqua Therapy

Aquatic therapy is a series of water-based therapeutic exercises for relaxation, fitness, and physical rehabilitation. These exercises are performed in our Warm Water Pool while floating or partially submerged.  The exercises are developed in a class format led by a qualified instructor.

Registrants are welcome to come to the pool to register or register online through our online registration system.  Due to the popularity of this program, we ask individuals to sign up for either the Monday session or the Wednesday session.  If you wish to do more, contact Customer Service to be put on a waitlist.

Fall Session Registration:  Fall registration will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24th.  Classes will begin the week of October 20th and will run for 8 weeks.

Mondays (October 20th to December 8th) 12:00 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Wednesdays (October 22nd to December 10th) 12:00 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Swim Lessons

The Centennial Aquatic Centre is a proud Affiliate of the Lifesaving Society. We offer programs for babies through to aquatic leadership. The Swim for Life program stresses lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. Valuable Water Smart® education is incorporated throughout all levels of the program. The Lifesaving Society provides a fun and challenging progression of lifesaving training programs. At the CAC, we offer the Canadian Swim Patrol and the 3 Bronze medal awards, which are designed for swimmers between 8 and 15 years of age. Our first aid certifications focus on the practical ABCs of lifesaving.

Fall Lessons

Registration will take place online beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23rd. Below is the lesson brochure which provides complete details.  The session dates will run:

  • Saturdays beginning on October 18th and running through to December 6th.
  • Sundays beginning on October 19th and running through to December 7th.
  • Tuesdays beginning on October 21st and running through to December 9th.

Program Registrations - Create Your New Account

Swim lessons are scheduled seasonally, consisting of 1 session a week for 8 weeks. Fall programming typically begins in October, Winter programming in January, Spring programming in late April and summer programming in July. Registration dates will be posted to the website once details are available.

Adult Lessons

Adult Swimmer 1:  You'll work towards a 10-15 min swim on your front and back.  You will do jump entries from the side and recover and object from the bottom in chest-deep water.  Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4x 9-12m interval training.

Adult Swimmer 2: Increase your confidence while practicing swim skills in deep water.  Interval training includes a 4x 25m kick set.  Refine your front and back crawl stroke technique.  Practice various dive entries in deep water.  Demonstrate breaststroke arms with breathing, deep water surface support (1-2 min), and shallow water handstands.

Adult Swimmer 3: You will learn eggbeater, stride entries, and compact jumps.  You will work your way up to complete a 200m workout and 25-50m sprints.  You will continue to work towards mastering your front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. 

TIP: Lessons fill up quickly! Be sure to create your account or update your login credentials so that you are prepared to register for swim lessons when registration opens.

Participant Report Cards:

Your child's instructor will provide the participant number on the final day of class and let you know when report cards will be available. If you don't know what your participant number is you can reach out to our customer service team to provide it to you at prc@collingwood.ca. Your child's participant number will stay the same from session to session.

Advanced/Leadership Aquatics

Bronze Star

Bronze Star develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport.

  • Pre-requisite: None (Swim Patrol experience highly recommended)
  • Swim Requirements: None
  • Cost: $155 +HST

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid

Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness - the four components of water rescue - form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem- solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water.

Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Bronze Cross.

  • Fall Dates:  Sundays beginning September 14th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Exam date will be Wednesday, October 8th. Dates and times subject to change.
  • Pre-requisite: Must be 13 years of age by the end of the course OR have successfully completed Bronze Star
  • Swim Requirements: must swim 400m in 12 minutes or less
  • Cost: $210 + HST

Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid & CPR-C

This course begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the p.m. importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society's National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification.

  • Fall Dates:  Sundays beginning October 19th, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Dates and times subject to change.
  • Pre-requisite: Must be 13 years of age by the end of the course AND have successfully completed Bronze Medallion
  • Swim Requirements: must swim 400m in 11 minutes or less
  • Cost: $350 + HST

Standard First Aid & CPR-C (required for National Lifeguard)

Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification.

The first aid program is not restricted to aquatic candidates. You can use the Lifesaving Society's first aid awards to train non-aquatic staff (camp, playground, maintenance, etc.) and the general public.

  • Cost: $170.00 + HST

National Lifeguard Pool - Full Certification

National Lifeguard is a legal certificate for lifeguarding throughout the country and is recognized and required by the province of Ontario for lifeguarding public swimming pools.

  • Fall Dates:  Tuesdays beginning September 16th, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Dates and times subject to change.
  • Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years of age (by August 23, 2025) AND have successfully completed Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid (need not be current) either from the Lifesaving Society or an approved provider.
  • Cost: $325 + HST

Swim Instructor

This course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.

  • Dates: Wednesdays beginning September 24th and ending October 8th, 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Course Outline: 3 weeks of in-class PLUS 3 days of co-teaching on either a Tuesday or Sunday evening or a Saturday morning during our Fall Lesson Session.
  • Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years of age by end of the course AND have successfully completed Bronze Cross (need not be current) either from the Lifesaving Society or an approved provider.
  • Cost: $150 + HST.  Manuals can be purchased separately.
