Burn permits regulate open-air burning in Collingwood to promote fire safety, reduce risk, and ensure compliance with the Open Air Burning By-law.

Fire Chief Dan Thurman reminds residents that fire permits are required for open-air burning and that all fires must be handled with care. Always use extreme caution and keep water nearby.

Open Air Burning Permits are reqired for all outdoor fires and are valid through to the end of the year they are purchased within the Town of Collingwood.

How to Obtain an Open-Air Burning Permit
Online instructions
- Create an account or log in to the CityView Public Portal.
- In the application type drop-down list, choose 'burn permit (fire department)'.
- Fill in the required information in the burn permit application.
- If you are a tenant, you must provide authorization from the property owner and upload documentation containing this authorization. If you own the property, you can skip this step.
- Submit the application and pay the fee using a debit or credit card.
- You will receive an email confirmation once your permit has been processed. Please allow three (3) business days to receive confirmation.
Please note: A "Gas-fired Outdoor Campfire Device" refers to a ULC- or CSA-approved gas appliance (natural gas or propane). These devices are not regulated under the Open Air Burning By-law, and a burn permit is not required. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines when using these appliances.
In-Person Instructions
- Visit the Collingwood Fire Department, located at 45 High Street, during business hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays).
- Purchase a burn permit for $38.00, payable by debit card, credit card (Mastercard, Visa, and American Express accepted), or cash.
