WHEREAS, National Green Building Day is recognized across Canada to raise awareness and support for sustainable building practices; and
WHEREAS, It is a time to recognize leadership in the building industry, highlighting those building more sustainably and encouraging others who aren’t as far along; and
WHEREAS, Buildings account for a significant percentage of energy-related carbon emissions and have been recognized as a key area to focus on pathways towards reductions; and
WHEREAS, National Green Building Day encourages sustainability practices, which are ever-more important: for reducing GHG emissions as well as for improving resiliency to climate hazards such as floods, wildfires and hurricanes, and improving resource efficiency; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Collingwood is committed to encouraging more sustainable communities; and
WHEREAS, We recognize the importance of working collaboratively with industry partners, sustainable building programs, and residents, to advance more responsible building practices; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Collingwood is proud to support and celebrate National Green Building Day and is committed to fostering healthier, more efficient and sustainable homes and communities where everyone can live, work, and play;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Yvonne Hamlin, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM June 3, 2026, as “National Green Building Day” in the Town of Collingwood.
