At its August 10th meeting, Council approved a by-law to authorize the purchase of 725 Tenth Line for a future Multi-Use Recreation Facility and other potential community uses, with the land purchase to be completed in late 2026.

Why this site?
After reviewing several possible locations, 725 Tenth Line was identified as the best site for future recreational development. The 37-acre property includes about 34 acres of buildable land, providing enough space for the proposed Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) and room for future growth.

The site is easy to access by public transit and is close to Fisher Fields, established neighbourhoods like Georgian Meadows, Mair Mills and Creekside, future residential development areas, and Collingwood's commercial districts. It could also accommodate a future satellite branch of the Collingwood Public Library. Its location near the Town of The Blue Mountains and Clearview Township also creates opportunities for regional partnerships and shared services.

What are the next steps?
The Legislative Services Department will submit confirmation that Council has enacted the required by-law and will work with the Town's solicitor and realtor to finalize the transaction. As the project advances, staff will bring forward additional reports seeking Council direction on matters such as potential capital partnerships, project delivery methodology, and the establishment of a project team to guide the next stages of planning and development.

What is the timeline?
The completion of the conditions of sale is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. In that event, the conditions of the Purchase and Sale Agreement cannot be satisfied, Council has identified a strong alternative site to be pursued that can accommodate the proposed MURF and was also endorsed by the MURF Steering Committee.

What did the land cost?
The purchase price cannot be disclosed until the transaction is complete. Once the sale has closed, the Town will provide additional public notice and issue a news release that includes details of the acquisition, including the purchase price.

What amenities will be included in the MURF?
The specific amenities to be included in the MURF have not yet been finalized. The Joint MURF Feasibility Assessment established a requirement for a site of at least 20 acres to accommodate a building of up to 245,000 square feet, along with the associated parking and site infrastructure. The final facility program will be refined once the preferred location, potential capital partners, and population to be served by the facility have been confirmed. Stay tuned for future engagement opportunities!

Will an Arts Centre be included at this site?
The assessment of potential locations for a future Arts Centre is still underway. The results of that work will help inform Council's decisions regarding the development and location of a future performing arts and cultural facility.
