It’s that time of year when the melting snow reveals more than just the first signs of spring. To keep community spaces beautiful and safe for all, here are two important reminders for pet owners.

Per the Town’s Responsible Pet Ownership By-law, every dog owner is required to immediately remove any excrement left by their dog on both public and private property. Beyond being a legal requirement, picking up after your pet ensures our shared trails and recreational spaces remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Forgot a bag? We’ve got you covered. Mutt Mitt dispensers are conveniently located at various trailheads and parks throughout Collingwood. Please take only one mitt at a time to ensure there are enough supplies for the next person and their pup.

The milder weather means busier trails, and an important reminder that dogs must be kept on a leash at all times when off private property or outside of a designated off-leash dog park, per section 10.1 of the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law. Keeping your dog leashed protects your pet, other animals, and fellow trail users.

Thank you for being a responsible pet owner and helping us keep Collingwood clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone! For more information about Canine Control in the Town of Collingwood, visit this page of the website.
