The Town of Collingwood continues to make significant progress implementing its Tourism Master Plan, a long-term roadmap designed to ensure tourism is effectively managed, sustainably developed, and responsibly marketed by 2030.
Council endorsed the Tourism Master Plan in December 2024, which includes 32 initiatives that support a thriving visitor economy, enhance quality of life for residents, and protect Collingwood's unique character. As part of the 2025 work plan, Bannikin, Town staff, and community partners have completed or are implementing 11 of the 32 recommended initiatives. Additionally, several key milestones have been achieved, including implementing the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) and establishing Tourism Collingwood.
Among the recommendations in the Tourism Master Plan are regular updates regarding implementation progress. Consultants Bannikin shared a progress presentation in January 2026 as well as an update with tourism industry stakeholders at the Economic Development Roundtable in June 2026. Since then, Town staff reported to Committee of the Whole on September 14, 2026, with an update regarding implementation progress on the recommended actions.
To keep residents, businesses, and tourism stakeholders informed, the Town will be sharing weekly updates in a social media series dubbed Tourism Thursdays that will highlight the work completed to date and the positive impacts these initiatives are having on Collingwood's tourism sector and the broader community.
Following the series of Tourism Thursdays, a monthly tourism email newsletter will launch, providing subscribers with tourism news, trends, implementation updates, and opportunities to get involved. This newsletter supports communication objectives in the Tourism Master Plan and will be a source of tourism-related information for subscribers.
