The Town of Collingwood is aware of recent concerns regarding parking tickets issued in local business parking lots.

The Town offers a Private Property Parking Compliance sub-service. This allows commercial property owners, such as Loblaws, to set and enforce parking rules on their property intended for their customers. Once enrolled, enforcement is carried out by the property owner and their authorized Private Enforcement Officers (not Town employees) to issue parking tickets. This is a common practice in municipalities, as Town-issued tickets are legally enforceable and more effective in addressing ongoing parking challenges.

Key Facts:

  • Tickets are not being issued by Town staff. They are issued by a private company hired by the Business.
  • The Town is not patrolling or enforcing parking on private lots.
  • The Private Property Parking Compliance partnership helps local businesses manage their own private property.
  • The Town is actively exploring parking solutions in and around the Downtown area, together with the work of the Master Mobility and Transportation Plan, and the upcoming Parking Accommodation study.
