Music from Zimbabwe (Collingwood Music Festival's Outdoor World Music Series)

"Nhapitapi" – a Shona word meaning “sweet sounds” – is a dynamic six-piece ensemble of Zimbabwean musicians, singers, and dancers who bring an irresistible energy to the stage. Their music is a kaleidoscopic journey that expertly weaves ancestral rhythms with contemporary African diasporic flavors. Grounded in the healing and sacred sounds of the mbira (thumb piano) and marimba, the group creates a “musical magic” that travels seamlessly from the ancient voices of the African continent to modern Afro-jazz, funk, and reggae. Designed for the whole family, a Nhapitapi performance is as much a visual spectacle as it is a musical one. The group’s fiery dance moves and upbeat, “entrenched-in-ceremony” spirit make it impossible to stay still, turning every concert into a joyous community celebration. Whether they are performing at a major festival or an intimate venue, Nhapitapi’s soulful storytelling and infectious grooves offer a fun, immersive experience that connects audiences of all ages to the vibrant heart of Zimbabwean culture.

In our commitment to making music accessible to everyone, this performance is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. Your generous donations directly support our programs and help us keep these events open to all.
