The Town’s Development Standards have recently undergone a comprehensive review and are in draft, pending review and adoption by Council. These updates reflect current best practices, evolving community needs, and the Town’s long-term objectives for growth and infrastructure.

Key updates include:

  • Increased sidewalk widths to better support accessibility and active transportation in new developments
  • Updated private road standards to improve long-term functionality and maintenance
  • Sanitary and water modeling requirements as part of the design stage
  • Import fill revisions, including clarification on where limestone fill is permitted
  • Additional lot grading criteria and an updated process for certification
  • Updated watermain distribution material list
  • Revisions and additions to various standard drawings
  • Standardized requirements for utilities, lighting, traffic signals, and pedestrian crossovers
  • Enhanced tree protection measures, and more.

These changes are intended to support more complete, accessible, and resilient neighbourhood design as the Town of Collingwood grows.

Feedback from members of the development community and the public can be submitted by email to developmentengineering@collingwood.ca. All feedback received will be reviewed and considered as part of the finalization process.

Staff will present the updated Development Standards to Council, along with a staff report for consideration of adoption, at the August 10, 2026, Council meeting.

Further details, including the draft Development Standards, are available on the Development Engineering Review page of the Town's website.
