WHEREAS, International Overdose Awareness Day is observed annually on August 31 to remember and honour those who have died from overdose and to acknowledge the grief of families, friends, and communities left behind; and
WHEREAS, Substance use and overdose impact people from all walks of life, and reducing stigma is essential to encouraging individuals to seek support, treatment, and recovery services; and
WHEREAS, Community awareness, education, compassion, and evidence-informed approaches can help prevent overdose-related harms and save lives; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Collingwood recognizes the importance of supporting individuals, families, service providers, and advocates working to address the impacts of overdose in our community;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Yvonne Hamlin, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM August 31st, 2026, as “International Overdose Awareness Day” in the Town of Collingwood and encourage all residents to participate in activities that promote remembrance, awareness, compassion, and support for those affected by overdose.
