April is National Poetry Month, an opportunity to recognize the integral role poets play in our cultural landscape and that poetry matters. Explore the beauty of poetry throughout the month of April. 

  

Collingwood Public Library, Monday, April 8th 6:30-7:30 p.m.

In celebration of Poetry Month, the Collingwood Public Library is honoured to present an evening with Jillian Morris, the Town of Collingwood's Poet Laureate. Jillian will discuss some of her poetry, and her creative process. You may also wish to consider joining the library poetry writing group, a new program on offer that will meet the second Tuesday of each month, beginning in May. 

 

Poetry StoryWalk©  

Enjoy StoryWalk© and the beauty of poetry outdoors as you wander the trail. StoryWalk© is located along the Train Trail beginning at the Collingwood Museum and following the Train Trail south to Collins Street. In celebration of Poetry Month, StoryWalk© will feature the book Poetree, written by Shauna LaVoy Reynolds and illustrated by Shahrzad Maydani, shares the story of a young girl, Sylvia who build a poetic relationship with a beautiful birch tree.

 

Poet Laureate, Jillian Morris

The Town of Collingwood is happy to announce that Poet Laureate, Jillian Morris, will be extending her tenure for another year! Jillian has served as the Town of Collingwood Poet Laureate since April of 2022. During her term, Jillian has appeared at and facilitated many special events sharing the power and beauty of poetry and storytelling.

“The Poet Laureate program is an impactful means for connecting community. I’m thrilled and grateful to be a part of the program for another year. I continue to be committed to promoting advocacy and community wellness through the literary arts,” said Jillian.

 

Take a Stanza

Collingwood and Barrie Poet Laureates will be delivering a youth empowerment poetry event at the Collingwood Public Library, on April 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jillian and Ty will explore the intersection between art and advocacy drawing upon their distinct voices and shared commitment to amplify marginalized perspectives.
