As we transition from summer to fall, we invite you to join the Collingwood Indigenous Circle and the Town of Collingwood in celebration of the Change of Seasons and the Fall Equinox.
Knowledge Keeper Sheila Robson from Neyaashiinigming (Cape Croker) will offer cultural teachings. Sheila will be joined by Ode’imin Kwe who will share a jingle dress dance and Sharon Rigby who will share a traditional dance. There will also be three sisters soup with bannock, a corn husk doll craft, sacred fire and Indigenous vendors.
The Change of Seasons gathering will take place on Sunday, September 24th at the Awen’ Gathering place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In collaboration with the Collingwood Indigenous Circle and with the support of Muckpaloo Ipeelie, Heather McIntyre as well as Jennifer McFarlane the Change of Seasons event has taken place throughout the year including gatherings in the spring and summer honouring the new season and Mother Earth. Indigenous teachings and knowledge sharing invite us to build a deeper connection and understanding of our natural world including the sky, land and water.
Attendees are invited to offer a gift of thanks. Suggestions shared by the Collingwood Indigenous Circle include tobacco, tea, sage, cedar or sweetgrass. Engaging respectfully with Knowledge Keepers and in the spirit of reciprocity shows gratitude for the teachings shared. Take the time to ask questions and learn more, reach out to Collingwood Indigenous Circle organizers who will be there to support.
There is no cost to participate, and all are welcome. Visit www.collingwood.ca/seasons or www.CollingwoodIndigenousCircle.ca for more details.
