
Update at 9:30 a.m. April 4, 2025 - Following the overflows (full bypass) and partial bypass experienced Wednesday evening and yesterday, due to the overwhelming amount of rain over a short period of time, Wastewater and Compliance staff have calculated the following:
- A partial bypass of the UV system at the WWTP that started on April 2, 2025 at 10:40 p.m., resulted in 3900 m3 volume over 21 hours (chlorine disinfection applied).
- An overflow at the WWTP headworks that started on April 3, 2025, at 2:00 a.m., resulted in a volume of 21 171.6 m3 over 12 hours and 15 minutes.
- An overflow at the Minnesota St sewage pumping station on April 3, 2025 at 2:00 a.m., resulted in a volume of 3125 m3 over 12.5 hours.
Update as of 9:15 p.m. April 3, 2025 - The partial bypass ended at 7:30 p.m. this evening. All required sampling and reporting have been provided, per Ministry of the Environment regulations, and there are no health and safety concerns.
During a partial bypass, no raw or untreated sewage was discharged into the bay, and the Town's drinking water was not impacted by this situation.
Thank you to the residents who limited their water usage today. No further water restrictions are in place at this time.
Updated at 3:00 p.m. April 3, 2025 - The WWTP overflow (full bypass) ended at 2:15 p.m. All wastewater is going through the WWTP and being disinfected by UV or chlorine, with monitoring, testing and reporting being completed as required.
The overflow at Minnesota Sewage Pump Station ended at 2:30 p.m.
The Town will provide further details when the event is over.
Updated at 11:30 a.m. April 3, 2025 - Please note that this is a Wastewater system issue related to sewage and drainage, not the drinking water system. The municipal drinking water system remains fully operational, and the water is safe to drink. There is no boil water advisory in effect and no risk to the safety of the Town’s drinking water.
Posted at 7:15 a.m. April 3, 2025 - With the significant rainfall received in Collingwood this week, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is currently experiencing a full treatment bypass.
- A partial bypass of the UV system that started at 10:40 p.m. on April 2, 2025
- An Overflow at the headworks that started at 2:00 a.m. on April 3, 2025
- An Overflow at the Minnesota St pumping station at 2:00 a.m. on April 3, 2025
Monitoring, testing and reporting are being completed as required. The Town will provide further details on the bypass when the event is over
What can residents do to help?
The Town is asking residents to limit water use during this time to alleviate pressure on the system. Avoid doing laundry, limit showers and toilet flushing, etc.
