3:00 p.m. - Due to the significant rainfall received in Collingwood overnight Wednesday, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) experienced a partial treatment by-pass which ended at 10:25 a.m.
Influent sewage flows at the WWTP exceeded 63,000 m3/d and approximately 874 m3 of these flows by-passed the final treatment stage (UV disinfection); however they were chlorinated for disinfection.
As per the Town’s Operating Procedure, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, Spills Action Centre and Medical Officer of Health were notified and samples of the discharges were collected.
Staff are seeing flows in the range of 37,000 m3/d at the WWTP this afternoon, which is within the treatment capacity of the WWTP. Environmental Services staff are working with Public Works staff to monitor the sanitary system.
9:00 a.m. - With the significant rainfall received in Collingwood overnight, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is seeing high flows this morning and is currently experiencing a partial treatment bypass. All wastewater is going through the WWTP and being disinfected by UV or chlorine, with monitoring, testing and reporting being completed as required. The WWTP effluent discharges into the harbour at Birch Street. The Town will provide further details on the partial bypass when it is over.
