Proclamation: World Sepsis Day

WHEREAS, Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency caused by the body's extreme response to an infection and can affect people of all ages; and

WHEREAS, Sepsis is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, resulting in thousands of deaths each year in Canada and leaving many survivors with long-term physical, cognitive, and psychological effects; and

WHEREAS, Early recognition and timely treatment of sepsis can save lives, reduce complications, and improve outcomes for patients and families; and

WHEREAS, Increasing public awareness of the signs and symptoms of sepsis can help people seek urgent medical care sooner and support healthcare providers in identifying and treating sepsis quickly; and

WHEREAS, World Sepsis Day is observed annually on September 13 to raise awareness of sepsis, improve recognition, and encourage action to reduce the burden of sepsis in Canada and around the world;

 

NOW THEREFORE, I, Yvonne Hamlin, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,

DO HEREBY PROCLAIM September 13, 2026, as “World Sepsis Day” in the Town of Collingwood and encourage all residents to learn the signs of sepsis and support efforts to improve awareness, prevention, early recognition, treatment, and recovery.
