With warm weather in the forecast, the Town of Collingwood shares the community’s excitement in anticipation of the Awen’ Waterplay’s 2024 opening. After a successful grand opening and glowing public reception in August 2023, the Town is keen to welcome residents and visitors back to this beautiful new community feature.
In advance of the 2024 season, the Town proactively began its annual health and safety inspection and review of Awen’ Waterplay, and has been working closely with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) to comply with their requirements. Additional testing and verification of the advanced Ultraviolet (UV) filtration system (a relatively new technology for splash pad water treatment) must be completed to ensure this wonderful amenity continues to be safe for all to enjoy. This additional testing has been deemed necessary by the SMDHU, who has consulted with Public Health Ontario. The Town has provided the necessary documentation and design from its consultants, verifying the effectiveness and safety of this type of water treatment. In an abundance of caution, this additional measure is being taken to ensure the ongoing healthy and safe use of the Awen’ Waterplay.
We understand that the community is eager to enjoy the Awen’ Waterplay, and the Town is working hard to expedite its opening while ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
