Town of Collingwood: Applications to Fill Vacant Councillor Position

Following the decision of Council, the Town of Collingwood is now accepting applications to fill one (1) vacant Councillor position for the remainder of the 2018 – 2022 term of Council.

If you are interested in applying, information packages are available on the elections page on the Town website or by contacting Clerk Services at clerk@collingwood.ca . The vacant Councillor position will be filled by appointment and as a result, no formal election or public vote will be conducted.

All applicants must be a qualified elector as defined in the Municipal Elections Act and must be:

•    A Canadian citizen;
•    At least 18 years old, and;
•    Resident of the Town of Collingwood, or the owner or tenant of land in the Town of Collingwood, or the spouse of such a person; and
•    Not prohibited from voting (as per the Municipal Elections Act) or otherwise by law.

The Town of Collingwood has implemented a mandatory workplace vaccination policy that supports the direction that becoming fully vaccinated provides a high level of protection against COVID-19 and related variants. Unless medically or legally exempt, it is the expectation that Council members are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 1, 2022. Proof of vaccination will be required prior to being appointed to Council.

Application deadline: February 28, 2022 at 4:00PM

A special meeting of Council will be called the week of March 7-11 to select a candidate to fil the current vacancy.

Background Information
The vacancy was created due to the resignation of a Councillor for the Town of Collingwood.

At the January 24, 2022 Council meeting, Council declared one (1) Councillor position vacant as required by the Municipal Act, 2001.  Further to Staff Report Staff Report C2022-02, considered by Council at its regular meeting held January 31, 2022. Council opted to proceed with the option to fill the vacancy by inviting applications from any interested qualified elector and further approved the procedure contained within the report on how the candidates will be interviewed and successful candidate appointed.
