WHEREAS, CRIME STOPPERS, of Simcoe-Dufferin Muskoka was established on January, 12, 1987 and became incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization on February 11, 1987. The program is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, that oversee all aspects of the operation;

AND WHEREAS, CRIME STOPPERS is not a Police program nor funded by the provincial or federal government or by police agencies. The program is operated solely with monies generously donated from the private sector, businesses or raised through fundraising efforts of the volunteer Board of Directors and committee volunteers;

AND WHEREAS, CRIME STOPPERS is a program that benefits everyone in the community and in 2005 Crime Stoppers International was recognized by the United Nations as a global force in the fight against crime and terrorism;

AND WHEREAS, CRIME STOPPERS mandate is to assist the Police in solving crimes thereby making our communities and schools safer. Through the media, the public is encouraged to call a province wide toll-free number 1-800-222-8477 with information about a crime that has occurred or is about to occur. If the information provided solves or prevents a crime, the anonymous caller is eligible for a cash reward; 

AND WHEREAS, Anonymous calls to CRIME STOPPERS of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka have assisted the Police and other investigative agencies in making 4,890 arrests, recovering stolen property valued at almost $13 million and seizing over $73 million in illegal drugs. For this information, Crime Stoppers has approved $404,622 in cash rewards and received over 64,600 tips.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Brian Saunderson, Mayor of the Town of Collingwood,

DO HEREBY PROCLAIM January 2022 as “Crime Stoppers Month” in the Town of Collingwood.
